The NFL continues to go from strength to strength, with the NFL London Games 2018 proving a hit throughout the Capital as audiences worldwide tune in to catch the action.

Growing its presence globally through a combination of marketing and overseas fixtures, this weekend’s game will mark the 24^th time London has hosted an NFL fixture. As the Philadelphia Eagles face the Jacksonville Jags at Wembley on Sunday, the Eagles will become the 29^th NFL team to face off in London, with only the Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans still to play in the capital.

Original plans for Tottenham’s new stadium to host the first of the three fixtures in London fell through, with the stadium needing more time before being able to host a game. With an abundance of suitable venues, Wembley was named as the host site for all three NFL London Games this year, despite Twickenham previously playing host to three.

Overseas fans of the NFL have been rejoicing as the excitement has hit fever-pitch in the UK, with these regular-season games playing a large part in deciding which teams will move into the playoffs, and eventually, the prestigious Super Bowl.

Broadcasters BBC and Sky Sports have rights to broadcast the London NFL games, with live-scoring and continuous coverage growing the sport’s popularity and engagement levels in the UK.

Activations have also got fans talking in their masses on social media, with Subway creating a giant ball pit with exclusive prize balls hidden inside. It’s an entire day of entertainment around the stadium, as the ‘tailgate’ fan zone includes a stage show, American style food and beverages, cheerleader performances, NFL interactive games, branded merchandise and more.

While the NFL has seamlessly adapted to taking place all over the world, this is a format which looks increasingly likely to be introduced in other sports and leagues. The MLB are in the stages of developing global fixtures as well as LaLiga already announcing that they will be taking a regular season game to the USA every season.
