Virtual Reality Excites IPL Fans

Virtual reality continues to go from strength to strength in the world of sport as Star India, the media rights holder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) announces its latest development.

Taking fan engagement to a new level, the IPL prepares to broadcast live matches in virtual reality through video streaming service Hotstar. Fans in India will have the option to select various camera angles and choose the commentary language as well as having the ability to customise via the “Super-fan-feed.”

Star India battled against the likes of Facebook to win the highly in-demand media rights, having previously used virtual reality streaming in 2016 to broadcast the Kabaddi World Cup.

Broadcasting matches in six different language across TV and digital, Star India expects to reach an audience of 700 million, drawing in record-breaking numbers.

Sanjay Gupta, Star India’s Managing Director said: “The VIVO IPL 2018 will be a 6-month-long fiesta with new-age technology putting fans at the heart of the experience. We are confident that this will empower viewers, advertisers and the media & entertainment ecosystem of India with greater convenience and viewing pleasure, audience deliveries and all-round growth.”
