Matchroom Announce Biggest Streaming Deal In Boxing

Matchroom Boxing have announced a ground-breaking $1billion deal set to run over 8 years. The news sent sports fans into a frenzy in anticipation of the 16 live shows which will be broadcast per year across America with Perform Group’s platform DAZN, in a business move which has never been seen before.

Striking the transatlantic broadcast deal with the online streaming service, Hearn also took this time to state his intention to create “the biggest stable of fighters ever seen in the US”, using the enormous opportunity to recruit the country’s best talent as he continues his expansion into the US market.

The on-demand streaming service was launched in 2016 initially in Japan and Germany, proving a huge success and growing to include access to all domestic and international sports in Japan.

Easily accessible, DAZN is now expected to overtake competitors in the US with access to such high-profile fights, combined with one monthly, affordable fee per month, a free trial and no contract.

Looking to revolutionise the way boxing fans follow sport, DAZN’s CEO, Simon Denyer, said: “We believe all sports broadcasting and all sports consumption will be on digital within 3 or 4 years. We’re building a broadcast platform for the future.”

Visibly excited at the opportunities yet to come, Matchroom continue to reach new heights, building on their 16 fights in the UK, with Hearn adding: “I am so excited to shake up the world of boxing.”
